Gary Lee Joyner introduces Atomic Guitar and discusses why AG is *not* a teacher's method or a sweep-picking exercise: Okay folks, I'm back from the bowels of the home studio with a new composition. Atavism is now for sale on CD Baby and iTunes...and my website. Click 'Store' in the drop-down menu under 'Media' and you can buy tracks directly on the site.
What is Atavism besides a great SAT word from biology class? It's the sound of a classical guitar floating above layers of glitchy electronica-inspired loops. There's a 'hook' in the pop sense and a great deal of exploration of contrast and texture. Give it a spin, support the music with a download if you enjoy it, and let me know what you think. Enter your name/email in the checkout menu, download the track, and you'll receive a nice thank you from me *and* the full-size artwork. It's cool and and weird. You'll like it. More coming soon. First off, thanks to everyone who came out to see Ashley Gold and the boys at Cause tonight.
It was blustery, it was New Years Day, and we expected Lyn-Lakers to spend the evening at home, bundled in blankets, procrastination, and shame before a blazing flat screen. Instead, many of them came out for some acoustic grooving and had a great time. Really looking forward to next Sunday. Second, a big thank you to Corina Bernstein for the wonderful photos taken at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall. They look terrific! Be sure to check out more of her craft at http://corinabernstein.photoshelter.com/ Stay tuned. It's almost 5am and that's absurd. Happy New Year, everyone! Thanks to UnderCurrentMPLS for this video of our third Wednesday show at the Amsterdam. Only one more Amsterdam Wednesday left! Next week's co-stars are "The Dirty Pretty"; if you've not yet checked out the Max Corcoran Project, Tentacle Boy, or Lovecat, well, we have, and it's been a thrill to share the bill with each of them. New toy alert: the Godin Grand Concert Duet Ambiance is blowing my brains. How a classical guitar and $1000s in condenser mics are hiding in an instrument that looks/plays like a Telecaster I don't know. Come to the Amsterdam on Dec 28 and hear more. Do it for Humpday. Do it for cool music. Do it for the broodjes (I had no idea what they were either, and I guarantee you'll eat more than one). Happy Chanumas. Thanks to UnderCurrentMPLS for posting this video of our first event at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall. One of our brand-new songs! You can hear us at the Red Stag Supperclub this Monday night, Dec. 12 at 9:30. We'll also be back at the Amsterdam every Wednesday this month. Shows start at 9pm. See you all soon! Alright folks, here's the scoop: every Wednesday this December you can find Ashley Gold and band at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall. What does that mean? Band = Andrew Foreman (bass), Erica Burton (viola), Zach Schmidt (drums), and me (guitar). The Amsterdam means an exciting new venue where music and socializing happen at night--in Downtown St. Paul. Confused yet? There's more: starting this Wed at 9pm, we'll be performing alongside some very fun guests. This week it's the Max Corcoran Project. Still puzzled? Stop by 6 W 6th Street, St. Paul at 9pm this Wed and clear up all this confusion. Here's the latest folks: "There and Bach" is now available as a digital download at http://garyleejoyner.bandcamp.com/
This is a guitar duet with folktronica wizard/avant man Gary Lee Joyner. Using a Bach invention as the source material, we improvised our way into a messy, gurgling, ambient landscape featuring drum loops and effects. A fresh set of improvisations with Twin Cities iconoclasts Gary Lee Joyner and David Roos are now available
at http://garyleejoyner.bandcamp.com These segments document our first meeting as a trio. Three guitars, a "uni-string", novelty items, a Chinese horn, live loops, and an autoharp created these textures. As an aside, I'm really loving the combination of the Electro-Harmonix Ring Thing and the Line 6 DL-4. Ring-modulation discord + ambient swell = chewy awesomeness. Check out this track: |
